How Perplexity picks and cites sources
Unlike a model answering purely from training data, Perplexity performs a live web search for each question, retrieves the most relevant pages, and writes an answer with numbered inline citations to the sources it actually used. That means two gates: your page has to be retrievable (crawlable, indexed, on-topic) and quotable (a clean passage that directly answers the question). Recency is a strong factor — Perplexity leans toward current sources.
